The 4th G20 Research and Innovation Working Group and Ministerial Meetings in Manaus, Brazil, resulted in a commitment to addressing global challenges and promoting sustainable development, hilighting the importance of the Amazon and tropical forests globally.

Representing G20 members and invited countries, the leaders recognized the role of international cooperation in research and innovation. They underscored the need to reduce global inequalities in access to science, technology, and innovation (STI) and to achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under the theme “Open Innovation for a Just and Sustainable Development“.

A Key Deliverable: Belmont Forum’s Tropical Forests Call

The outcome of the G20 RIMM, the Manaus Declaration is a strong commitment to raising the bar. As a knowledge partner to the process, the Belmont Forum is proud to have been able to support these discussions, and to contribute – through the G20 supported Tropical Forests Call.

Agreed by the participating leaders, the Manaus Declaration represents a commitment to fostering open innovation and tackling global challenges. The declaration highlights the importance of Collaborative Research to leverage the power of international partnerships and collaborative research initiatives.
