I thought it would be apropos to take the opportunity to use LinkedIn to publicize our workshop that we held across the street from…LinkedIn. Yes, the Belmont Forum was in San Francisco last week to accomplish a few things:

  1. Valorize our multi-national, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary approach with scientists and stakeholders from our Coastal Vulnerability and Freshwater Security projects
  2. Connect with a broad audience at the Fall AGU meeting about the Belmont Forum while showcasing results from currently funded research, and
  3. Publicize our newest funding opportunity, joint with JPI-Urban Europe on the Food-Water-Energy Nexus.

The valorization effort, led by Future Earth Coasts and the Integration and Application Network, was extremely successful. Products will soon be available from this workshop that highlight not only a synthetic view of the breadth of research accomplished in these interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary awards, but also look at ways of improving co-designed research and increasing the impact of the results. We all walked away rethinking science communication and constructing our own “…and…but…therefore…” statements.

At the Fall American Geophysical Union meeting, the combined efforts of the Belmont Forum Secretariat, the Belmont Forum e-Infrastructure & Data Management Team, and Future Earth made for a vibrant exhibit that engaged with scores of international researchers, students, stakeholders, funders, and boundary organizations.

A key point in our many discussions at the Fall AGU exhibit was the recent release of a new call for proposals focused on the Food-Water-Energy Nexus. The call, which is joint with JPI-Urban Europe and features a number of International funding agency partners, opened on December 9, 2017. Pre-proposals are due March 15, 2017. We encourage interested natural scientists, social scientists, and stakeholders. To read more about, click here.
